For most futures day traders the easiest way to gauge your emotions is to write them down as they happen. Below I've provided the Excel spreadsheet I use to track the good things I did as well as the bad. I keep track of my tick count and running totals of my account so that I don't have to keep referencing back to my statements. I know I'm not the only one who for years thought that commissions should be included in your P/L.

How I Use Day Trading Log

So having this through the day keeps me up to date when I need it. The most important aspect of this is to jot down while you are trading how you feel. It's much easier to remember how you approach your trading while you're doing it rather than a week later when you try to figure out what's wrong. I tend to log in each trade after it happens which also acts as a barrier mechanism that may prevent me from over trading and ensures I'm able to lasso my emotions.
